A Wide Variety of Free Events took place...

The town of Perinton turned 200 years old in 2012, and had a monumental bicentennial celebration for the community centered on the first two weeks in July.

“We have dozens of fun, family-oriented events scheduled between July 1 and July 15,” said Jean Keplinger, Perinton Town Historian and a member of the Bicentennial Executive Committee. “Most of the events will be at Center Park behind the Perinton Town Hall,” she said, “and all of them were free."

A few bicentennial highlights;

Scavenger Hunt – It began June 25. Perinton residents picked up scavenger hunt booklets at the Fairport Library, the Fairport Historical Museum, or the Perinton Town Hall. Participants then visited the historic spots in Perinton to answer questions in the booklets. Completed forms were turned in by July 14, and winners were announced at the July 15 Center Stage concert featuring the Bill Tiberio and Bill Welch bands.

Youth Day --  Events on Saturday, July 7, began with a Youth for Youth Community Walk from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., led by Rochester Red Wings mascots Spikes and Mittzi, to benefit the Perinton Food Shelf. Events for the rest of the day at Center Park included face painting, crafts and games, a dunking booth, Native American story telling, an animal tracking exhibit, a talk on going to school in the early days of Perinton, a magician and a Jitterbugs musical concert. The day was capped by a Youth Outdoor Unplugged Concert at Center Stage, an open-mic program for Fairport-Perinton students to showcase their musical talents.

Gala Family Picnic – The picnic at Center Park ran from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, followed by a two-hour concert by Pan Loco. The dinner included an old fashioned country picnic, games for pre-schoolers through adults, a hog calling contest, a watermelon seed-spitting contest, a beard and mustache contest, a horseshoe tournament, firefighters’ waterball competition, a Lollipop Farm “kissing booth” and an antique car show. The horseshoe tournament took place at noon.
