Preserving Our Community’s Story

History of the Perinton Historical Society

For more than 90 years, the Perinton Historical Society has worked to preserve and share the people, places and stories that shaped Perinton and Fairport.

Our Story Begins

The Perinton Historical Society, also known as PHS, began as a research organization founded by ten women in 1935. The Society was formally incorporated in 1950.

Since its founding, PHS has collected and preserved documents, photographs, images and artifacts related to the history of Perinton and Fairport. Many items within the Society’s collections date back to the mid-nineteenth century.

Today, the Perinton Historical Society maintains and operates the Fairport Museum, where residents and visitors can explore the community’s rich local history.
