Donating to the Museum Collection

The following procedures will guide you through the steps of offering an item for donation to the Perinton Historical Society and the Fairport Museum collection.

Before bringing an item to the Museum, please email Curator Vicki Masters Profitt to discuss your proposed donation or schedule a meeting.

What to Include With Your Request

Please provide the following information when contacting the Museum about a possible collection donation.

Local Connection

Explain the item’s connection to Fairport or Perinton.

Photograph

Include a clear photograph of the item being offered.

Description

Provide a description of the artifact, document or item.

Item History

Share any known ownership, use or historical information.

What We Accept

  • Donations with a clear connection to Fairport and/or Perinton.
  • Items that are stable, reasonably clean and in exhibitable condition.
  • Photographs and photographic materials.
  • Historical artifacts and household objects.
  • Paper ephemera, records and documents.
  • Textiles, clothing and fabric items.
  • Artwork, books, family histories and genealogies.

What We Do Not Accept

  • Items that do not pertain to the history of Fairport and/or Perinton.
  • Items that are soiled, damaged or broken.
  • Newspapers.
  • Donations requiring conditions or restrictions, including required signage, permanent display or acceptance of an entire collection.
  • Duplicates of items already held in the Perinton Historical Society collection.
  • Donations that are not accompanied by a signed Deed of Gift.

Additional Donation Information

All accepted donations are considered outright, unconditional and irrevocable gifts to the Perinton Historical Society.

Unsolicited items left at the Museum may be discarded after 30 days.

Space and preservation constraints may prevent the Museum from accepting every item that is offered.

Thousands of artifacts are rotated on a regular basis. An accepted item may not always be on display, but it remains an important part of the collection.
